Holiday Season care at home

This holiday season has been specially thought provoking for me.

I'm always aware of both the joy and the stress that comes with holiday periods. For 10 years now, my team and I have watched the holiday season come around and families come together for a few days as adult children "come home", taking time off from their own jobs, perhaps in another part of the world.

But not everyone can do this. Jobs, travel pressures and commitments to their own families mean that adult children of seniors cannot always spend as much time as they would like to. In some cases, they are not able to visit at all for that year.

In many cases where families are able to come together, we are asked to cancel caregiving shifts for a few days and then restore the caregiving shifts back to the original schedules as they return home to their own lives. Many times this works out just fine because caregivers have their own families and in some cases they welcome the chance to spend time in their own homes.

This year I've noticed that we have not had as many shift alterations as we get most years around the December holiday period.

And that has meant that our caregivers have had to stay committed to their shifts.

So, for this holiday period, I am particularly thoughtful and grateful for the many caregivers who stayed committed to their shifts and brought holiday cheer to the clients under their care.

With deep appreciation and recogntion,
