Supporting ALICE Recovery Fund and Virtual Volunteering

July 13, 2020

ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) Helps Essex and Morris County Families In Need

BrightStar Care supports the United Ways of Northern New Jersey and Hunterdon County.

Our support helps their work address the near-term and long-term recovery needs of those throughout our six-county footprint who have been hardest hit by COVID-19 crisis. The United Way is closing gaps in needed assistance for households in poverty and ALICE and will ensure the stability of the region’s social service infrastructure.

More than 500 families are counting on us. Please join us to help.

Of the 1,074 applications, the ALICE Recovery Fund received, they have provided financial assistance to roughly half — 518 — sending a total of $720,500 directly to families in our community.

We’ve heard over and over again how this assistance was a lifeline. We need your help to be the difference for the other 556 who still need our help.

Providing emergency assistance during the height of the crisis was just one part of United Way’s response. They have also been working behind the scenes to ensure that ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) essential workers can go back to work with the right support, including:

  • Provide job skills and training needed to excel in a post-pandemic world;
  • Ensure safe, and quality child care is available when ALICE returns to work;
  • Virtually prepare and file tax returns for free;
  • Provide family caregivers with the training and virtual tools to safely care for loved ones.

How can you join the fight?

  • Spread the word! Let your friends and followers on social media know you donated and tag us @UnitedWayNNJ on FacebookTwitterInstagram, and LinkedIn and @UnitedWayofHunterdonCounty on Facebook and LinkedIn and @UWHunterdon on Instagram#ALICErecovery, #UnitedWayNNJ.org, #ALICErecovery, #HelpALICE. • Donate! If you’ve given already, thank you. If you can give again, or haven’t yet, please, take a moment to hear from the families being helped. You can click here to see the thank you notes and watch the videos they wanted to share with you.
  • Become a virtual volunteer!  Check out opportunities here, including help for local food banks and cheering up seniors or those with disabilities who have been socially isolated during this time. Thank you for doing whatever you can!

The United Way is determined to reimagine a future where racial inequities are erased, and ALICE families can achieve financial stability. For these essential workers who struggled even before the pandemic hit, going back to “normal” means still struggling paycheck to paycheck.

This is our moment to say the post-COVID-19 economy cannot return to normal.

ALICE deserves better. So does everyone living in our region. Together, with your donation, we can work toward an equitable future for ALICE and everyone in our community.
