Bucks County Services Implements Focus Group for Families, Children, and the Elderly

February 25, 2020

Committee gets input on new and improved County Services for families, children, and seniors from Bucks County residents.

A focus group held to look at county services for families, children, and seniors met this month. The focus group was led by a new subcommittee tasked with evaluating and making improvements to community health and safety programs. The group aims to understand resident concerns about existing programs and get suggestions for new services needed.

The Bucks County Division of Health and the Bucks County Division of Housing and Human Services programs under evaluation are:
  • immunizations
  • bioterrorism response coordination
  • family caregiver support
  • health insurance counseling for seniors
  • drug prevention and recovery support services,
  • child abuse and neglect inquiries
  • homelessness prevention
  • re-housing for families that abruptly become homeless
  • outpatient therapy for children and mental health services
After the 2019 November election, Health and Human Services formed a sub-committee, led by The Bucks County Women's Advocacy Coalition; a nonpartisan organization focused on bettering the lives of Bucks County women and families. This group hosted the focus group at Bucks County Intermediate on February 18th, 2020. The focus group included county residents who gave input on how the county's health and human services can be expanded or improved. The committee asked for feedback and suggestions from residents on what the county should do to expand services and enhance existing services for residents. The committee asked to hear residents' experiences with the health and human services departments to help guide their review process.

Once the committee makes its recommendation, it will be up to county leaders and residents to make certain program changes, and legislation moves forward.
