Hello. I’m Maria de le Calle, BSN, RN
BrightStar Care® Director of Nursing.
How long have you been a nurse?
I graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a BSN and have spent the past 25 years growing, adapting, and evolving as a nurse. My career began at Children’s Memorial Hospital in the Pediatric and Cardiac ICUs, where I learned not just how to care for critically ill children, but how to support the families who love them. I have been a travel nurse, working at several renowned institutions, and have also worked in adolescent medicine for three years. Joining BrightStar has been a true bright spot in my career, and I was honored to step into the role of Director of Nursing this May.
What expertise and experience do you bring to BrightStar Care?
I’ve built a career rooted in resilience, compassion, and adaptability. I’ve come to believe that while clinical skills can be learned and mastered, it’s the ability to connect with patients, families, and colleagues alike that defines truly exceptional nursing. At BrightStar Care, I bring not just years of diverse clinical experience, but a deep understanding that kindness, empathy, and human connection are universal and they’re what elevate care from good to truly great.
What part of your job are you most passionate about?
I’m driven to guide the next generation of nurses to share knowledge, yes, but more importantly, to help them discover their own purpose and passion. I want to help them understand that while technical excellence is essential, it’s the moments of human connection, empathy, and impact that make this work truly meaningful. Watching someone grow into a confident, compassionate nurse is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
What are three unique strengths you bring to BrightStar Care?
-
Grit with Gratitude – I carry with me the resilience and work ethic instilled by my parents, so that daily setbacks don’t shake me, and challenges don’t slow me down.
-
Bilingual & Bridge-Building – Being bilingual isn’t just a skill, it’s a bridge to trust, comfort, and better care.
-
Real, Relatable, and Ready to Help – I show up with authenticity and a willingness to roll up my sleeves and support whoever needs it.
