June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month—a time to shine a light on the more than 6 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease and to recognize the families, caregivers, and professionals who walk alongside them each day.
At BrightStar Care of Northern Michigan, we see the impact of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia every day. We also see the strength, love, and resilience of the families facing these challenges. This month, we’re honoring that journey—and reaffirming our commitment to providing compassionate, specialized care to those affected in our community.
We’ve had the honor of walking beside many families throughout their Alzheimer’s journey. The spouse of one of our clients recently shared:
“My wife has been struggling with Alzheimer’s for about 5 years. BrightStar has a tremendous group of caregivers. [They] had the amazing ability to calm her down and redirect her thoughts. Many times I would not know how to handle a particular situation; [the BrightStar Care caregivers] were able to calm me down and suggest different ways I might approach a problem.”
These are the stories that drive our mission and inspire our care.
Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disorder that affects memory, thinking, and behavior. It can begin with subtle changes—forgetting appointments, losing track of time—and gradually evolve into significant cognitive and functional decline. There is currently no cure, but early diagnosis, support, and tailored care can significantly improve quality of life.
In Northern Michigan, where close-knit communities and aging populations intersect, the need for dementia-friendly care is growing. Our team is here to help meet that need with dignity, empathy, and professionalism.
Care That Makes a Difference
Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s can be overwhelming. Families often find themselves navigating medical appointments, personality changes, safety concerns, and emotional strain—all while trying to maintain a sense of normalcy and connection.
That’s where BrightStar Care steps in. Our caregivers are specially trained in Alzheimer’s and dementia care, and they understand how to adapt to the unique needs of each stage of the disease. Whether it’s helping with daily routines, offering meaningful companionship, or ensuring a safe home environment, our goal is to provide consistency and peace of mind.
We don’t just care for individuals with Alzheimer’s—we care about them. We take time to learn their histories, understand their preferences, and engage with them in ways that preserve dignity and independence for as long as possible.
