At BrightStar Care of Northern Michigan, our caregivers are central to all that we do. One of those dedicated professionals is Kathy, a compassionate caregiver whose life experience and genuine kindness shape the exceptional in-home care she provides to seniors throughout Northern Michigan.
About Kathy: A Family-Centered Caregiver
Kathy is widowed and deeply rooted in family. She is the proud mother of three adult children and a grandmother to nine, and a great-grandmother to 18! At home, she also enjoys the companionship of her beloved cat. Kathy’s strong family values naturally carry over into the thoughtful, personalized care she provides to her clients.
Providing Compassionate Senior Care at Home
As a caregiver with BrightStar Care, Kathy supports older adults by helping them remain safe, independent, and comfortable in their own homes. Her daily responsibilities include assisting with personal care, grocery shopping, and banking, while also encouraging clients to stay mentally and socially engaged. Kathy believes that quality in-home senior care goes beyond tasks—it’s about helping people continue participating fully in life.
Finding Purpose in Caregiving
What Kathy loves most about her job is the meaningful impact she has on others. Knowing she can make someone’s day a little brighter gives her a deep sense of purpose. For Kathy, caregiving is about “paying it forward”—offering compassion, encouragement, and dignity to those who need it most.
From Michigan Roots to Serving Northern Michigan Seniors
Kathy was born in Niles, Michigan, in the southwestern corner of the state. During high school, she moved to Fife Lake, Michigan to help care for her grandmother, an experience that sparked her passion for caregiving early in life. She later graduated from Kalkaska High School and earned a degree in Medical Assisting from Davenport University. After being widowed, Kathy moved to Baldwin to be closer to work.
Staying Active at Any Age
Outside of work, Kathy believes staying active is essential. She decided to take up bowling after 45 years and now loves the challenge it brings. It’s a philosophy she also encourages in her clients—finding ways to stay engaged, active, and motivated at every stage of life.
A Little Fun: If Kathy Were a Cartoon Character
If Kathy could be any cartoon character, she’d choose Tweety Bird—sweet, cheerful, and innocent. The choice reflects her gentle personality and caring approach with every client she serves.
Words to Live By: Advice That Guides Her Care
One piece of advice has stayed with Kathy throughout her life: Be patient and truly listen—not only to what is said, but also to what may be implied or left unsaid. She believes that attention to detail and active listening are essential qualities in providing exceptional elder care services.
Why Kathy Loves Working at BrightStar Care
Looking back, Kathy wishes she had joined BrightStar Care sooner. She values the strong support system, teamwork, and sense of connection within the organization. Being part of BrightStar Care of Northern Michigan allows her to do meaningful work while feeling supported by a company that shares her commitment to high-quality, compassionate care.
