This month, we're excited to shine the spotlight on Lisa Schaub, RN, whose lifelong passion for nursing and commitment to her patients make her an invaluable part of our team.

A Dream Years in the Making

For Lisa, nursing wasn't just a career choice—it was a dream that began when she was just 10 years old. Although life took her on a different timeline than expected, she never let go of that goal.

"I didn't start nursing school until I was 28," Lisa shares. "But I never gave up on my dream, and it remains one of the best decisions I've ever made."

Today, Lisa brings nearly 30 years of nursing experience to BrightStar Care, including 28 years at Munson Medical Center. She joined our team just over a year ago, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge, clinical expertise, and a genuine passion for caring for others.

Bringing Skilled Nursing Home

As a Registered Nurse with BrightStar Care, Lisa provides skilled nursing services that allow clients to remain safe, healthy, and independent in the comfort of their own homes. Her role includes performing health assessments, managing medications and treatments, educating patients and their families, coordinating care, and supporting each patient's overall health and well-being.

While Lisa valued the fast pace and rewarding outcomes of acute care, home care has become the place where she feels she can make the greatest impact.

"What I love most about home care is the opportunity to truly get to know my patients," she says. "Building relationships, understanding their unique needs, and making a meaningful difference in their everyday lives is incredibly rewarding."

Her reason for becoming a nurse has remained constant throughout her career: to care for others and positively impact their lives.

A Journey That Led to Northern Michigan

Originally from Western New York, Lisa also spent several years living in Georgia before joining the Air Force. It was her military service—and a friendship she formed there—that eventually brought her to Traverse City.

A fellow service member from the area encouraged her to visit, and although she'd never been to Northern Michigan before, it didn't take long for Traverse City to feel like home.

A Fun Fact You Might Not Expect

When she's not caring for patients, Lisa has quite the adventurous side. She once owned a buckskin mare that she rode bareback using nothing more than a piece of baler twine as a neck rein.

"I would even stand on her back while riding through the fields," she recalls.

It's certainly a story that surprises most people!

Words to Live By

The best advice Lisa has ever received is simple but powerful:

"Never give up on your dreams."

It's advice she has lived every day. Her journey to becoming a nurse proves that it's never too late to pursue your passion, and her career is a testament to what perseverance can achieve.

Thank You, Lisa!

Lisa's compassion, experience, and unwavering dedication make a lasting impact on the lives of our clients and their families every day. We are incredibly grateful to have her as part of the BrightStar Care of Northern Michigan team.

Congratulations, Lisa, and thank you for your commitment to providing exceptional care and helping our clients live safely and independently at home. We're proud to celebrate you as our Employee Spotlight!
