At BrightStar Care of Northern Michigan, our caregivers bring compassion, experience, and heart to every client they serve. This month, we're proud to spotlight Meg Duncan, a dedicated caregiver whose kindness and sense of humor make a lasting impact on the lives of those she cares for.
A Heart for Caring
Meg is a caregiver with BrightStar Care of Northern Michigan and a proud wife, mother of three, grandmother of two, and semi-retiree. Her role goes far beyond assisting with daily needs—she works to ensure her clients' medical needs are met while providing meaningful companionship and plenty of laughter along the way.
For Meg, caregiving is deeply personal.
"It's fulfilling to care for people who need support," she shares. "I was unable to help my parents before they passed because they lived too far away. This is my way of giving back."
Her desire to serve others shines through in every interaction, helping clients feel valued, supported, and cared for.
From Chicago to Traverse City
Meg grew up in the suburbs of Chicago before making Northern Michigan her home. What brought her to Traverse City? Love.
She moved to the area for the man she was dating, who would later become her husband. Together, they built a life in the community she now proudly serves.
A Lifetime in the Arts
Many people may be surprised to learn that Meg spent more than four decades as a Ballet and Tap dance instructor. She also participated in theater productions, combining her love of movement, creativity, and performance.
Her background in teaching and the arts has helped shape the engaging and positive energy she brings to her caregiving role today.
Life Outside of Work
When she's not caring for clients, Meg enjoys spending time reading, working on puzzles, and tending to her yard and garden. These hobbies allow her to stay active, creative, and connected to the simple joys of everyday life.
Inspired by Family
If Meg could spend a day as anyone, she would choose her mother.
"She was a great lady—smart and wise," Meg says. "I would love to know what she was thinking."
The admiration she has for her mother reflects the values that guide her own life and caregiving approach.
Words to Live By
One of the best pieces of advice Meg has ever received is simple but powerful:
"Enjoy the life you have. It is what you create."
It's a philosophy that encourages gratitude, purpose, and making the most of every day.
A Final Thought
As someone who values relationships, Meg shared that she would love the opportunity to get to know more of her coworkers. It's a reminder that the strength of BrightStar Care comes not only from the care we provide our clients, but also from the connections we build with one another.
Thank you, Meg, for your compassion, dedication, and the joy you bring to those around you. We are grateful to have you as part of the BrightStar Care of Northern Michigan team.
