For 53 years, Patrick and Kathleen Cardinal have shared a life built on love, resilience, and dedication—not just to each other, but to their community. Their story is one of enduring partnership, from the heart of Spokane to the halls of Cardinal Realty, and now, through a new chapter supported by BrightStar Care.
🏡 A Family Business Rooted in History
Cardinal Realty was founded in 1949 by Robert Cardinal, Patrick’s father. After returning home from Vietnam in the 1980s, Patrick stepped into his father’s shoes and took over the practice. With Kathleen by his side, the couple ran the business together, becoming a trusted name in local real estate and a fixture in their neighborhood.
Their teamwork extended far beyond the office. Whether helping families find their first homes or navigating life’s ups and downs, Patrick and Kathleen were always in sync—steadfast partners in every sense.
💙 A New Chapter with BrightStar
In August 2025, BrightStar began caring for Patrick. We quickly noticed gaps in his post-surgical care—missed follow-ups, delayed appointments, and difficulty accessing medications. With mobility challenges and no reliable transportation, Patrick was struggling to keep up with his recovery.
We stepped in immediately: scheduling appointments, coordinating prescriptions, and ensuring he got to every medical visit safely and on time.
Shortly after, Kathleen returned home from a skilled nursing facility with a broken leg. Now both Cardinals were injured, and transportation became a major hurdle. One day, our caregiver personally visited their home, gently carried Kathleen to her car, and drove her to an appointment where she learned she’d need surgery.
On the day of her procedure, BrightStar made sure she arrived at the hospital on time and with care. Meanwhile, Patrick had a follow-up of his own—where we discovered he too needed surgery. We ensured he got there safely and received the attention he needed.
💞 Together Through It All
Even in recovery, Patrick and Kathleen remained inseparable. Though they were in different hospitals, BrightStar arranged transportation so Patrick could visit Kathleen—reuniting them after a week apart. That moment was a testament to their bond: two people who’ve done everything together, even healing.

We continue to support Patrick and Kathleen with follow-ups, transportation, and medication management. Their story reminds us that care is more than clinical—it’s about connection, dignity, and honoring the lives people have built.
