BrightStar Care of The Monterey Peninsula was honored to participate in a recent community resource event hosted by the County of Monterey Military and Veterans Affairs Office in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs. This event focused on supporting veterans, especially aging adults, by connecting them with valuable local resources and services.

Meaningful Conversations with Our Veteran Community

Throughout the event, our team had the opportunity to speak directly with veterans and their families about the different types of care available at home. Many attendees were looking for guidance on how to safely remain independent while managing health needs, recovery, or daily living tasks.

We had great conversations centered around how both skilled nursing care and non-medical home care can work together to support veterans in a comfortable, familiar environment.

Understanding Skilled and Non-Medical Care at Home

One of the most important topics we discussed was the difference between skilled and non-skilled care, and how both play a vital role in supporting overall health and quality of life.

Non-medical home care may include:

  • Assistance with bathing, dressing, and personal hygiene
  • Meal preparation and light household support
  • Companionship and help with daily routines

Skilled nursing care may include:

  • Monitoring health conditions and vital signs
  • Medication management and oversight
  • Nursing assessments and coordination with healthcare providers

By combining these services, veterans can receive well-rounded support tailored to their individual needs.

How VA Benefits Can Help Cover Care at Home

Many veterans and families are not fully aware that VA benefits may help cover both skilled and non-medical care services at home. This was a key part of our conversations during the event.

Our team helped explain how eligible veterans can access these benefits and how care plans can be structured to ensure they receive the right level of support without unnecessary stress or confusion.

Increasing awareness around these benefits is essential in helping veterans take full advantage of the care they have earned through their service.

Supporting Veterans Across Monterey County

Events like this highlight the importance of community collaboration and outreach. Monterey County is home to a large veteran population, and providing access to information and trusted providers can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

BrightStar Care of The Monterey Peninsula is proud to be part of that effort by offering compassionate, high-quality care services that support independence, safety, and dignity at home.
