At BrightStar Care of the Monterey Peninsula, honoring the sacrifices of our Veterans means more than just saying "thank you" — it means showing up for them every day with meaningful support. As we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month this May, we are shining a light on the emotional and physical needs of Veterans in our community and how companion care, along with assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), can make a profound difference.

Our coastal towns — from Monterey and Pacific Grove to Marina, Salinas, and beyond — are home to many brave men and women who once served our country. While their strength is undeniable, many face ongoing emotional and physical challenges long after their time in uniform.

Mental Health Matters: The Challenges Veterans Face

It’s estimated that nearly 1 in 4 Veterans from all service eras experience some form of mental health condition, such as PTSD, depression, or anxiety. These challenges are not limited to a specific generation or conflict — they impact Veterans from World War II to Vietnam, and from the Gulf War to more recent deployments. The invisible wounds of service can be just as significant as physical injuries, and they deserve our community’s attention and compassion.

How BrightStar Care Supports Veterans: Companion Care and Personal Care Services

At BrightStar Care of the Monterey Peninsula, we proudly provide companion care to Veterans, offering vital emotional support and social connection. Simple but powerful activities like sharing a conversation, enjoying a hobby together, or providing transportation to appointments can help Veterans feel less isolated and more connected to the life they fought to protect.

Additionally, we offer physical assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), helping Veterans maintain their independence and dignity. Our compassionate caregivers assist with:

  • Mobility support — helping Veterans safely move around their homes or get in and out of chairs, beds, and vehicles
  • Bathing and hygiene — assisting with grooming, bathing, and personal care routines
  • Dressing and grooming — ensuring Veterans feel comfortable and confident each day
  • Meal preparation and feeding assistance — supporting proper nutrition
  • Medication reminders — helping Veterans stay on track with essential treatments

Together, companion care and personal care services support not only a Veteran’s mental health but also their physical well-being, helping them continue to live safely and comfortably at home.

Partnering with Our Community

We are honored to work alongside local Veteran groups, healthcare providers, and families across Monterey County to provide customized care plans that meet the unique needs of each Veteran we serve.
