Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects thousands of veterans in Monterey County and across the country—but too often, the condition goes undiagnosed, untreated, or misunderstood. At BrightStar Care of the Monterey Peninsula, we believe in breaking the silence, building understanding, and standing beside our veterans not just on June 27th—PTSD Awareness Day—but every day.

What Is PTSD?

PTSD is a mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. For many veterans, this may include combat, training incidents, or loss of fellow service members. PTSD can show up as:

  • Flashbacks or nightmares
  • Anxiety or hypervigilance
  • Withdrawal from loved ones
  • Difficulty sleeping or concentrating
  • Depression or suicidal thoughts

These symptoms don’t make someone weak—they make them human. And they deserve compassionate, professional care.

Monterey County: A Veteran-Rich Community with Real Needs

With installations like the Presidio of Monterey, Naval Postgraduate School, and a large number of retired service members living in Seaside, Marina, Salinas, and beyond, our community includes a significant population of veterans who may be living with PTSD—often quietly.

BrightStar Care is committed to meeting these local heroes with dignity, respect, and trauma-informed care.

How BrightStar Care of the Monterey Peninsula Supports Veterans with PTSD

We know that home is often the safest place for healing. Our services include:

Companion care for veterans living alone or experiencing isolation

Respite care for family caregivers managing loved ones with PTSD

Personal care with empathy, consistency, and gentle structure

Our caregivers receive specialized training on trauma-informed care and are educated to recognize and respond to common PTSD symptoms with sensitivity, not judgment.
