The Alzheimer's Epidemic in the Portland Area

November is National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month

Since President Ronald Reagan designated November as National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month in 1983, the number of people living with Dementia in the US has increased.

Alzheimer's disease has soared to nearly 5.4 million, and those numbers continue to climb as baby boomers age.

This year, the COVID-19 Pandemic is also impacting those living with Alzheimer's, so we want to recognize the importance of Alzheimer's care and the resources available to family caregivers caring for loves ones with the disease during these challenging times.

To help families in Portland living with memory loss during the pandemic, BrightStar Care offers resources and information for family caregivers. Please visit our RESOURCE CENTER HERE for online help here: https://www.brightstarcare.com/resources/Alzheimer's-dementia

Additionally, many community organizations offer support for family caregivers. For example, the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (AFA) offers free virtual memory screenings from the safety and comfort of your home. Virtual screenings allow individuals to receive one-on-one, confidential memory tests from a qualified health professional using their computer, smartphone, or tablet. Screenings are done by appointment every Monday and Wednesday from 10 am to 4 pm (ET), and every Friday from 10 am to 2 pm (ET).
