Alicia Drake, RN, Director of Nursing
One of the best aspects of our home-care model is in the nursing oversight of our clients. To help you get more acquainted with our Director of Nursing, we asked a few questions that we would like to share with you:
1. How long have you been a nurse?
I graduated in March of 2018 from Rasmussen College, and have been a nurse ever since.
2. What experience do you bring to BrightStar Care®?
I started my nursing career at Bethesda Hospital in Saint Paul, MN working with Traumatic Brain Injury Patients. I enjoyed working with these patients because I got to know them and their families very well, and it was very rewarding to see their recovery and accomplishments over the course of their 30+ days at the hospital. I moved on to work at St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, MN in the medical/surgical, neurology, and telemetry units before starting with BrightStar in June of 2021.
3. What aspect of your job are you most passionate about?
Prior to starting nursing school, I worked as a CNA in longterm care and home-care. I later went to school for corrections and worked at Stillwater Prison as a Correctional Officer for three and a half years. I then decided that my passion was nursing. I wanted to get back to helping people heal. In nursing school, I learned leadership skills, self-awareness, compassion, and how to be a shoulder to lean on for people experiencing hardships. I also married a Marine, and have grown to be very passionate about the military and veterans. I love to hear their stories and care for them.
4. I provide A Higher Standard of Care for our BrightStar Care® clients by:
Having one-on-one, personalized interactions and care for clients of all backgrounds.
