Compassion, integrity, family, excellence, trustworthiness, accountability, and diversity
Amy J. Kleinschmidt, RN | Director of Nursing I received my registered nursing license in 2006 after my husband retired from the military and we purchased a home on the Peninsula. I spent a number of years as a Hematology/Oncology Nurse working in a local hospital and earned an Advanced Certification in Oncology. As gratifying as working on “the floor” was, I wanted to spend more time with patients and their families to help them during the final stages of life so I transitioned to Hospice Nursing. I worked on two Hospice cases with BrightStar in which we were providing 24 hour Personal Care. I was very impressed with the quality of Nurses and CNAs I encountered on those two cases and with Bob Kohan’s personal and business philosophies. I officially became part of the BrightStar Care of Williamsburg team in February 2013 and recently was promoted to the Director of Nursing position. At BrightStar Care, we work as a team and each one of us is a vital player. The client’s needs come first and we work very hard to provide exceptional care, from the nurse’s to the CNA’s to our administrative staff and assistant who answers the phone. We are accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare, and we take that seriously. BrightStar Care is committed to quality care and I am happy to be a part of the team.
Cindy Sample, RN | Director of Compliance I have been a registered nurse for 15 years. I received my Associates degree in Nursing from Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, Virginia. Prior to graduating from nursing school I worked in an Emergency Room for 10 years. It was a natural transition to become an emergency room nurse. Working as an emergency room nurse I gained a vast variety of experience and knowledge caring for patients from birth to the aged in a fast paced environment. In 2003 I began the next phase of my career by becoming an Assistant Manager of a 43 bed Emergency Department. In 2004 I was given the opportunity to train as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner and to coordinate the development of a very successful Sexual Assault Program. In 2010 it was time for a change of pace and I began working part-time for BrightStar Care in Williamsburg as an RN. I was promoted into the Director of Nursing role in 2011 and managed the Joint Commission Accreditation initiative. Recently I transitioned into a Director of Compliance role. These experiences have given me a new insight into the holistic level of nursing care that is possible in a private duty environment. I am passionate and committed to ensuring that each client receives exceptional quality care and is treated with the kindness, compassion, and dignity that we would expect to be treated with, if our roles were reversed. Maintaining and improving upon the highest quality standards as set forth by compliance with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare helps to ensure we deliver exceptional quality care to our patients. I am Making More Possible for our BrightStar patients and their families by ensuring we recognize and value them as individuals, that we are empathetic to everyone’s needs, that we treat everyone with dignity, compassion and kindness, that the quality of our care exceeds all expectations and that they can all rest assured knowing they are in exceptional hands who will treat them like family.
Alisha Perry | Operations Manager I came to BrightStar Care in December 2010; I have been the Operations Manager since 2011. I moved from Colorado, where I worked as a Human Resource Assistant for a level 1 trauma hospital. Before my move to Colorado to pursue school, I worked as the VPO and Marketing Liaison for a local Medicaid Agency. I started my career in healthcare as a Certified Nursing Assistant 16 years ago, before going back to school to get my Associates Degree in Healthcare Administration and eventually my Bachelors of Science Degree in Business with a focus in Human Resource Management. I have worked with the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities managing their Youth Leadership Forum staff. During this time I gained invaluable insights into the human spirit, diversity and success. The opportunity to work with teens living with an array of disabilities helped me to understand that if you want something bad enough, the impossible is possible. I enjoy working with people and am passionate about staffing as a result. Matching a patient’s care needs and personality with the most qualified caregivers helps to ensure the highest level of care for our patients and a happy stable group of employees. Seeing the results of my hard work thru well cared for patients and happy employees makes my day. I enjoy helping and interacting with our clients and employees and staffing has allows me to do that. I am the mother of two very active kids; I love to run extreme mud races, coach basketball to young kids, play soccer, and Mountain Bike. I have run 6 races all benefiting local organizations. I am involved in the Wounded Warrior project, I run to raise money and awareness for these individuals.
Deedee Alston, LPN | Marketing Liaison I started out in long term care in 1997 as a Certified Nursing Assistant. After 12 years of hard work and words of encouragement from my residents. I received my Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Medical Careers Institute in 2009. I have 16 years of experience in clinical settings providing personal care, hospice, children & young adults with disabilities, and the geriatric population. I am passionate about the team I work with, the quality care we give to our clients and how our staff will go over and beyond to cover a shift no matter what. I am Making More Possible for our BrightStar Care clients by taking care of our clients as if they were family. I strive to help our clients maintain their independence while providing needed support.
