Enterprise Champion for Quality Awardee 2013-2023

May 9, 2023

“I started BrightStar Care to provide a higher standard of in-home care so that grandmas and grandpas could receive the level of support they deserve. Earning The Enterprise Champion for Quality Award for the 11th consecutive year demonstrates that we continue to deliver that higher standard as measured by The Joint Commission,” said Shelly Sun, Founder and CEO of BrightStar Care. “With more than 95% of our independently owned and operated offices accredited by The Joint Commission, I’m extremely proud of our team’s unparalleled commitment to quality.”

“We are committed to providing this superior level of care and safety for those families who trust us to care for their loved ones during a challenging time in their lives. I’m proud of our caregivers and nurses for the compassionate service they provide every day so that our clients can remain in their homes where they feel most comfortable,” Sun continued.

Receiving the Gold Seal of Approval® from The Joint Commission means that a healthcare organization has completed a comprehensive on-site survey and follows the standards and requirements established by The Joint Commission. It is the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare. The Joint Commission accredits and certifies more than 22,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the United States. "We are pleased to recognize BrightStar Care with the Enterprise Champion for Quality Award for the 11th consecutive year," said Gary Bachrach, Executive Director, Home Care Accreditation Program, The Joint Commission. "We applaud the BrightStar Care organization for its commitments and efforts working closely with its franchisees to help improve quality and safety for the many individuals and families it serves nationwide."

To achieve accreditation, organizations must incorporate and consistently maintain Joint Commission standards and requirements into their policies, procedures, processes and training materials. Joint Commission accreditation helps organizations improve safety and quality by identifying known or unknown risks through a meaningful assessment. This year, BrightStar Care received 45% fewer findings than the average home healthcare organization, while also reducing the findings by 20% year-over-year. BrightStar Care is the only franchisor to receive this honor since the award's inception in 2013, bringing the total to 11 consecutive years.

“BrightStar Care continues to remain focused on meeting our clients’ needs while keeping them safe so we can help reduce falls, infections, hospital readmissions and emergency department visits,” said Josie Rhoades, MS, BSN, RN, Vice President of Clinical Operations. “We’ve always had expectations of a higher standard of care for the full continuum of services our caregivers and nurses provide. From companionship and personal care to medication assistance and skilled nursing, we strive for excellence in everything we do.”
