Parkinson’s Support and Care

  • There is currently no cure for Parkinson Disease.
  • Someone is diagnosed with a Parkinsonian disorder every nine minutes.
  • Right now, about 35,000 Marylanders are living with Parkinson’s Disease.
  • Research studies show that engaging regularly in vigorous exercise improves cognition, mood and daily functioning. Some studies show that vigorous and sustained exercise actually changes the brain.

BrightStar Care of Baltimore City/County provides specialized training for our CNAs that certifies them in the care for our clients with Parkinson’s disease.  Our Director of Nursing conducts the training that focuses on providing the best possible care for men and women with Parkinson’s disease.

BrightStar Care of Baltimore City/County is a state-wide sponsor of MAPS (Maryland Association for Parkinson Support) . MAPS is a volunteer-driven organization whose mission is to “provide programs and services that encourage healthy lifestyles for all those affected by Parkinson’s Disease”.  All of the MAPS programs are free of charge. MAPS is a grass-roots and volunteer driven organization with a nine-member Board of Directors, a medical advisory board and a general advisory board.  https://www.marylandparkinsonsupport.org/Baltimore-Parkinsons-Support-MAPS-logo-(1).jpg

ALL THE PROGRAMS ARE FREE and MAPS intends to make sure they stay that way –no one living with Parkinson’s should have to pay for a class because having Parkinson’s already exacts too high a price!

ALL our programs and support services are offered AT NO COST TO THE PARTICIPANT because living with Parkinson’s is enough of a burden!

Here is a list of the current programs offered in Baltimore City and County.  The MAPs website has the most up to date information with more programs being added as funding is attained.
