If she keeps spending her retirement income at this rate, she'll only have enough money to get her through half a month. You're worried and want to help her cut her grocery bill. Here are four apps that can help.

Coupons.com

Coupons.com is an app and website where you search for coupons on items your mom needs to buy. The company has coupons for groceries, pet supplies, shoes, and more. After your mom creates her list, she can go through the current offerings at Coupons.com and print them out to get the savings taking off her grocery bill once she's at the register.

Favado

Have your mom create a shopping list and then use Favado to find out where the items she needs are the cheapest. The app compares the list against local stores to find sales and savings. Some shoppers

have slashed their grocery bills by 50 percent. Your mom may need to stop at a few stores to get the biggest savings, but it's usually worth it.

Ibotta

With Ibotta, your mom gets rebates on things she buys at the grocery or drug store. She uses the app to create a list of items. Once she purchases those items at the store, she submits a photo of her receipt through the Ibotta app. Once she completes that step, she gets the rebate deposited to her account within two business days. There are more than 300 retailers and restaurants that partner with Ibotta, including Albertsons, Costco, Food Lion, Kroger, Target, Trader Joe's, and Walmart.

Shopper

With shopper, your mom creates her grocery list. If she runs out of an item at home, she can scan the barcode and it gets added to her list. Once she has the list built, the app can help her find coupons or look for sales for the different items. Lists can be shared. If your mom wants you to do her shopping for her, she can send you her list with ease.

If shopping is difficult for your mom, a caregiver can help. She'll have help planning her weekly menu and creating the shopping list. The elder care provider can drive your mom to the store and help her shop. When they return, the caregiver can carry in groceries and help her put them away. Call an elder care agency to ask about meal preparation and transportation services.
