Who are BrightStar clients? How do they use us? These are questions I’m commonly asked when sharing that I work for a home care agency. First let me give you some background. We have been providing Home Care services in Indianapolis for 12 years.  We continue to grow and provide services in Marion, Hamilton, Boone, Hendricks and Hancock counties to name a few. Our care providers include Home Health Aides (HHAs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Registered Nurses (RNs).  HHAs and CNAs can assist with bathing, dressing, toileting, medication reminders, light housekeeping, transportation and other Activities of Daily Living.  LPNs and RNs perform services such as IV drug therapies, medication administration, and other skilled nursing needs. BrightStar can provide hourly care from 2 to 24 hours per day, or on a per visit basis.
Our clients range in age from newborn to 100+ years old and every stage in between.  Let’s look at a few real-life scenarios, shall we?
  • Sandy is a busy working mom, her 2-year-old daughter has come down with a fever and cannot attend daycare.  No problem, she has BrightStar on stand-by for this exact situation. Sandy calls our office and requests a Home Health Aide to care for her daughter. We sent our Nurse out and scheduled an appropriately experienced caregiver that day. We planned for a few days of care at her home to be on the safe side.
  • Jack is having knee surgery next week, he lives alone and doesn’t have anyone to care for him when he returns home.  BrightStar has an aide ready to pick him up after surgery and take him home.  We will assess his home for safety, give medication reminders, prepare his meals, provide support for showering, dressing, toileting and much more. Jack may keep us around for 48 hours or several weeks.  He knows we are flexible to meet his needs as he recovers.
  • John lives with his wife Barb, he’s caring for her but finding it more and more difficult. John decides he could use help in the mornings getting Barb up, bathed and dressed for the day.  We help by providing an aide who arrives every morning before Barb gets up. She helps her out of bed, helps her get to the toilet, assists Barb with a shower or sponge bath, gets her dressed, brushes her teeth. She prepares her breakfast, reminds Barb to take her medicine and starts a load of laundry. The routine is a little different each day depending on tasks that need to be completed. John is feeling better, less tired and has time to go run errands and take care of himself. He even finds himself spending more quality time with Barb walking and talking.
  • Mary is the primary caretaker for her mother who was diagnosed with terminal cancer and has started with Hospice care. She is diligently caring for her mother day and night but she’s becoming exhausted. Mary contacted BrightStar to help relieve some of her nighttime duties so she can get proper rest and be a better caregiver during the day.  BrightStar is providing a Nurse to care for her mother from 7pm to 7am, the nurse is tending to her care needs, administering medications and communicating changes with the Hospice agency.
  • Robert is 85 years old and sadly lost his wife a few years ago, he has a son who lives across the country.  He has lived in his current home for 43 years and has no plans to leave it. Unfortunately, time, bad knees and some memory loss have caught up with him and he needs support around the clock to continue living in his home. BrightStar provides 24/7 care in his home so that he can continue to reside where he’s most comfortable.  Our caregivers help with his personal care needs such as toileting, bathing, grooming, dressing, medication reminders and meal prep. Additionally, we provide companionship to Robert and transportation to doctor appointments and errand running. Robert and his son sleep comfortably knowing he has the care he deserves as he needs it.
It’s not possible to share every client scenario with you but hopefully this gives insight into who some of our clients are and how they utilize our services. I urge you to contact us with your own scenario and let us share how we can help!
