I have loved spending time with older people ever since I was a young girl. I enjoy hearing their stories and learning from their past experiences. I especially loved spending time with my grandparents. My grandpa was like a father to me, so I was able to care for my grandpa before he passed. I would cook meals for him and just to be there when he needed someone to talk to. I will forever cherish all the values he taught me in life. He was an inspiration in my life, which is why I was drawn to this career field.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A CAREGIVER?
I've been a caregiver for years, which includes caring for close family members.WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO BECOME A CAREGIVER?
The close relationship with my grandpa motivated me to be a caregiver. I will always love and cherish his memory.
WHAT ASPECT OF YOUR JOB ARE YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT?
I am passionate about taking care of people and being there for people that are vulnerable and need assistance with their care. I also enjoy hearing clients share stories from their childhood, or past experiences in their life, and seeing the joy in their eyes when they remember the past.
HOW ARE YOU MAKING THINGS MORE POSSIBLE FOR YOUR BRIGHTSTAR CLIENTS?
I am making things more possible for clients by making the clients feel safe and at ease as if I was part of their family.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER CAREGIVERS?
My advice for other caregivers is to be present and attentive.
TELL US YOUR FAVORITE CAREGIVING MOMENT/STORY
My favorite caregiving moment was helping someone unpack some boxes and we ended up looking through some of the scrapbooks. This person shared with me some wonderful memories. She revealed how valuable family is to them. This inspired me to be a little bit more like them. I even told myself I was going to start scrapbooking.
