How long have you been a nurse?
I have been a caregiver for six years. I began as a CNA and shortly after got my LVN license.

What motivated you to become a nurse?
What motivated me to become a nurse was that I was inspired by my best friend who is a nurse and my husband who is a respiratory therapist. Science had always been my favorite subject, so learning everything about the body and how it works is fascinating to me. Caring for people has always been very rewarding for me since I was young and cared for my grandmother until she was placed in a long-term facility.

What aspect of your job are you most passionate about?
The aspect about my job that I am most passionate about is making a difference in my patients' day or life, and to care for them holistically meeting all their needs.

How are you making things more possible for your BrightStar clients?
The way I make things more possible for my BrightStar Clients is by establishing rapport and trust with them, and by tailoring my care having their preferences, culture, and needs in mind.

What advice do you have for other caregivers?
My advice to other nurses would be to remember their job is a very noble one and prioritizing the patients' well-being is of most importance.

Tell us your favorite nursing moment/story:
My favorite nursing moment or story is when a hospice patient that I took care of in the hospital at the end of the day stated: "Esmeralda, I will never forget you." She was very appreciative that I helped her deal with a nervous breakdown, took my time to  comfort her, pamper her, read to her, and keep her company, because she did not have relatives in this country but her husband. She knew she was dying and was afraid to die. It was then when I realized I was capable of caring for hospice patients.

How do you re-energize?
I re-energize by trying to sleep enough, eat well, and take walks everyday by walking my dog.
