Caregiving isn’t just a job—it’s a calling.
For Gabina, the journey began long before her professional career, inspired by the loss of her grandparents and a desire to give the love she never got to share. She brings joy, comfort, and companionship to every client she supports.
Through smiles, patience, and thoughtful care, she shows how one person’s dedication can make an extraordinary difference in the lives of seniors and their families.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A CAREGIVER?
I have been working as a professional caregiver for 2 years in the United States. Before moving here, I was always supporting my friends in El Salvador by helping care for their parents whenever they needed me. Caregiving has been part of my life long before it became my profession.
WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO BECOME A CAREGIVER?
I lost my grandparents when I was very young and never had the chance to spend time with them. I still miss them deeply, and in many ways, being a caregiver helps me fill that empty space in my heart.
It's my way of giving the love I never had a chance to give to my own grandparents.
WHAT ASPECT OF YOUR JOB ARE YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT?
The best part of my job is seeing my clients happy. When I can brighten their day, make them smile, or bring them comfort, it gives me a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment.
HOW ARE YOU MAKING THINGS MORE POSSIBLE FOR YOUR BRIGHTSTAR CLIENTS?
I always show up with a smile. That first impression sets the tone for a positive connection. I strive to do my best every day, and if something isn’t working, I ask my clients for feedback so I can improve. Communication and kindness go a long way.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER CAREGIVERS?
Always smile—our attitude shapes our relationship with each client. Remember, we spend many hours together, so listening and truly understanding their needs is essential. Every person is different, so being patient and respectful makes all the difference.
TELL US YOUR FAVORITE CAREGIVER MOMENT OR STORY.
I used to work in a memory care facility, and one of the most beautiful moments for me was seeing the residents’ faces light up when I returned. They might not remember my name, but they recognized my face and showed such joy. That feeling of being appreciated and loved is priceless.
HOW DO YOU RE-ENERGIZE OR CARE FOR YOURSELF?
Life gets busy (and yes, that’s my excuse for not going to the gym!), but I have my own little habits that keep me grounded: a coffee every morning, one healthy salad a day, blasting music in the car on my way to work, and not overthinking problems. I believe every problem has a solution—especially if you believe in yourself.
KIND WORDS ABOUT GABINA FROM A CLIENT:
"Dear BrightStar,
I would like to applaud one of my caregivers, Gabbi. She is such an amazing woman (an angel in disguise).
Gabbi is one of the hardest workers I have ever known. Her quiet peaceful nature and beautiful smile helps me to feel calmer and better!
As my caregiver, Gabbi helps me with almost everything I need to do in a safe way. She has full knowledge of all the equip, ent used in taking care of me both inside and outside the house: quad cane, walker, 7-handled gait belt, a wide band that she puts around my upper back to help me sit up in bed or up from the sofa, as well as my transport wheelchairs, commode, bed rails, and backwedges for my bed,.
The combination of my two regular caregivers means I have stability, very competent assistance and happy relationships with both.
Please let Gabbi know how very much I appreciate and respect her for everything she does for me and for the lovely lady she is!"
