Virginia Elderly Couple are Victims of a Landscape Scam and Burglary
Elderly Scam Alert - Senior Home Safety
Fox Channel 5 is urging seniors to secure their homes, even when they're at home relaxing or outside. An elderly couple in northern Virginia reports that “crooks posing as landscapers came into their home and stole jewelry, heirlooms, and an engagement ring.” The scam allowed the robbers access to the victim's home, and this has police thinking that the couple was targeted because they are elderly.
According to Fox 5, the suspects convinced the family that their backyard fence needed to be repaired. “While two suspects pretend to fix the fence, another goes inside the house, stealing several items, even dropping some on the way out. Earrings, necklaces and an engagement ring were all stolen, according to the Nelson family. The jewelry cabinet was in the bedroom which brings us to the investigation.” Fox 5 has been told that investigators are exploring the possibility that this was not a random act.
