Senior Springtime in Southwest Florida

There’s just something about spring time in Southwest Florida. We enjoy live oaks that start to bloom, and occasional rain that helps the rare Butterwort flower show their vibrant yellow petals - all while still enjoying the birds that chose to winter in our area. There is much to see and do to embrace the beauty of our Spring season, even for older adults. Whether they need assistance or are independent, aging adults can get outside and experience the budding beauty of Spring in Southwest Florida.

Get artsy. If you live in Ft. Meyers, The River District is a great place for shopping and browsing works of art in the many galleries. There is even an Art Walk the first Friday of every month at which the galleries offer extended hours and one-of-a-kind exhibits. Whatever your pleasure, there’s bound to be an activity for older adults to enjoy. Always look for senior discounts as most venues offer them!

Savor historic cars. An 'oldie but goodie' ecperience, take a trip in history and visit The Revs Institute for Automotive Research, which presents rare and historic vehicles and automotive memorabilia. Or, tour the winter homes of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison right here in Ft. Meyers.

See the scenes.  At Corkscrew Swamp and its Bird Gardens of Naples, there are birds, plants, and butterflies to observe in a rainbow of color. You can schedule a two hour tour that delves deeply into the purpose and studies of the organization's preservation efforts. There is also the Naples Botanical Gardens if you prefer outdoor tropical gardens and walking paths to enjoy the beauty and vibrant show of color. At the end of your day, go to Naples Pier and witness a beautiful sunset, a time-honored tradition of locals!

Have fun in the sun. This is a Florida perrennial and should be on everyone's springtime list. Get exercise and spend time outdoors by taking advantage of the many walkable and bikeable activities in Naples. You can even rent an electric bike as an alternative. See the beautiful homes on Gordon Drive or the Bayfront shops and galleries. Enjoy an outdoor lunch at nearby restaurants.
