Sweet Rewards

February 13, 2018
When Dan Price began beekeeping at his Virginia farm, he didn’t anticipate much beyond tending to the bees and making a little honey. Now, nearly a decade later, his beekeeping hobby has blossomed into a non-prof- it organization called Sweet Virginia Foundation. The Foundation has connected with more than 10,000 students and delivered more than 100,000 flowers throughout the community, including to Dan’s clients from BrightStar Care, a homecare and medical staffing agency.

In addition to providing education, Sweet Virginia also grows thousands of flowers every year, all donated to seniors in the community. Dan dedicates countless hours to Sweet Virginia—tending to the bees, growing and cutting flowers, and teaching visitors about the vital role of honeybees in our ecosystems.

What keeps him going? The impact his flowers make. Dan loves seeing the joy on people’s faces when he delivers his flowers. In particular, Dan has always appreciated the happy reaction he receives from the senior community.

After seeing Dan’s close connection to seniors and his love for giving back, a friend asked if Dan would like to purchase his BrightStar Care location. Dan agreed, and a new passion was born.

BrightStar Care, a homecare and medical staffing agency, provides a range of compassionate, person-centered care to people of all ages in the comfort of their own homes. Further setting the company apart, each location has its own Registered Director of Nursing. BrightStar Care has continually received the Joint Commission’s Enterprise Champion for Quality award.

Now that he operates his own caregiving business, Dan is able to provide his community with needed health care services, while continuing to spread joy through his fresh flowers.
