Essential Planning for a Loved One with Special Needs Munch and Learn

This presentation will review necessary legal planning for your loved one with special needs. It will also provide an overview of the adult disability system in NJ and tips on how to best navigate common issues that arise.

Liz Shea is a disability advocate and the former Assistant Commissioner of the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities. In her current role as Of Counsel at Porzio Bromberg & Newman as well as Vice President of Porzio Compliance Services, Liz assists families of individuals with disabilities in navigating the adult disability system, developing new programs and accessing needed services. She also provides compliance support, training, and assistance to disability organizations in New Jersey among other special projects.

Laurie A. Hauptman is a graduate of SUNY Binghamton and Hofstra Law School and licensed in New Jersey and New York. For eight years she was a trial attorney at a litigation firm before joining forces with her husband, Yale in 1998 to practice elder and disability law. Laurie’s courtroom experience is essential to her role handling the firm’s court work, including guardianships, conservatorships and special needs trusts. Laurie is a Department of Veterans Affairs’ accredited attorney for the preparation, presentation and prosecution of claims for veteran’s benefits, a member of the United Way Caregivers Coalition Steering Committee, and the Co-Chairperson of the Elder and Disability Law Committee of the Essex County Bar Association. She is a frequent lecturer on elder and disability law, estate and special needs planning topics for continuing education credit for legal, financial, insurance and health care professionals and the general public.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about and a password for joining the meeting. You will then receive an email with instructions on how to open the Zoom meeting link. You will need the information contained in the email to sign in on Tuesday, July 27. We suggest that you sign into the meeting five minutes early. You will be placed in the waiting room and the host will let you in at 11:00am.
