Best & Brightest of 2023

November 1, 2023
BrightStar Care of Santa Barbara County
BrightStar Care Santa Barbara County is proud to announce its nominations for the 2023 Nurse and Caregiver of the Year…including the nurse who made it to the national winners circle as a runner-up!

Our wonderful caregivers, nurses, and physical therapists make such a difference in the lives of our clients and patients. They truly inspire us with their dedication to families across our County, demonstrating BrightStar’s five values every day:  Serve with Passion, Make it Great, Do What You Say, Be Open and Positive, and Do the Right Thing.

Join us in congratulating these individuals on the outstanding care they provide! Here is the list of nominees and how long they have been members of the BrightStar Care family:

  • Amy N, Caregiver - 3 years 8 months. Amy has been the caregiver for our client Don for her entire time with BrightStar Care. She has really become a valued part of his family. She has been a large reason why Don has been able to remain in his home despite losing most of his mobility in a traumatic spinal injury. She was with Don when he lost his wife, and “could not have been more solicitous, more thoughtful, or more gentle in assisting my beautiful Jan through her last days.”

  • Annie G, MSN, RN - 4 years 1 month. Annie is BrightStar Care’s Lead Infusion Nurse and Director of Nursing (DON). We are lucky to have her leading the charge for our Skilled Department. Dale is the patient who nominated Annie, always an upbeat and friendly man despite his pain. He dedicated his life to helping others as an addiction counselor, until he was struck with several life-threatening diseases that rendered him unable to walk or be independent. As per Dale, “I am wheelchair bound and spend a lot of time stressed out and wondering what the rest of my life will be…but [with Annie] I know that I truly am in a safe place.” As this blog is being posted, we just learned that he passed away this week.

  • Candice L, Registered Nurse - 4 years 2 months. Our tried-and-true, dependable, committed nurse Candice was the Santa Barbara representative who made it to the winners circle at our national conference as a runner-up! She has been with our patient Cathy for several years…and Cathy has a lot of heart-warming things to say about Candace. The most telling quote of the nomination was: “From the moment she entered my home…with her cheerful voice and a smile on her face, I knew this was going to be a good experience; but little did I know just how wonderful an experience it would become!”

  • Evelyn S, Caregiver - 7 months. As a relatively new caregiver on our team, Evelyn stepped up immediately to make a difference in the life of our client Stanley. He raves about her, saying how she “has completely exceeded our expectations of what a professional caregiver can be!” Stanley came to us after dozens of caregivers throughout the past decade of his life as a nonagenarian, and is glad to say he’ll stay with Evelyn whom he describes as “the whole package,” truly representing us as the best and brightest.

  • Sihar T, Caregiver - 1 year 10 months. We are honored to care for many veterans in our community, one of whom is our client Terry. He cannot say enough good things about caregiver Sihar, who he describes as “apparently born with the passion to serve others.” Terry is unable to walk or talk anymore; but uses his computer to communicate, which he and Sihar do quite well! Sihar has been a loyal and reliable caregiver for BrightStar Care, and quite specifically for Terry.

We thank these five individuals for their contributions to making BrightStar Care an exceptional company. Meanwhile, we wish we could nominate all of our wonderful caregivers, nurses, and physical therapists – for they are all the “Best and Brightest” to us!
