I have had the pleasure of working with ten Bright Star nurses, however Laura has been the most helpful encouraging and sensitive me. I wasn’t just another patient. She literally saved my life. Because of her knowledge and expertise she quickly took my blood oxygen to find that my reading was at 64. Immediately told my husband to call 911 for ambulance. I was taken to Santa Paula Hospital where I was intubated then transferred to LosRobles Regional Medical Center where I received excellent care. Then transferred to Alta Rehabilitation Center, where I had physical therapy occupational therapy and speech therapy. The reason I mention all of this about me is because if Laura had not used her training experience and knowledge I would have died. Laura is an angel who cares about each and everyone of her patients. Each one of us is special to her

My moms is a double amputee, no legs severed at the hip. She additionally suffers from arthritis. chronic infections, mobility issues and inability to perform basic activities of daily living that most take for granted. Thankfully she has a live-in caretaker thru IHHS, otherwise she would likelly require 24/7 hospice care. But what happens when her caretaker is unavailable or needs time off? She recently requested about a week off and that is when I had my first experience with Brightstar Care.
The date drew closer when her caretaker would be leaving and we were not coming up with any solutions and could not find a short-term person to fill in. Anxiety and stress was increasing but then I found Brightstar Care who was willing to contract for that short-term one week basis. This was truly difficult need to fill as most providers want a longer term contract. But Brightstar was able to be flexible on the length of time. They additionally provided an in-home Nurse Assessment and developed a plan of care specific to my mom's situation. Through every aspect of care they were courteous, professional, and compassionate.
So, thank you Heather, thank you Nurse Jeanine,Thank you Elena.... thank you to the entire Brightstar Care team for meeting this need and for treating my family as a long-term customer you truly cared about rather than someone you knew would be here today and gone tomorrow. I highly recommend this agency for their flexibility, professionalism, and ability to meet patients specific to their needs. I have great peace of mind also knowing where to go should this need ever arise again. Much gratitude to all of you and anyone in a similar circumstance I would encourage you to give them a look.
I have had a lot of trouble coordinating pharmacies and nursing care for my PICC line. I even had one nurse who ignored my concerns and practiced zero sterile technique when changing my dressing. Nurse Laura has been the opposite. She is so careful and so committed to providing the best care possible. She has been researching and trying different creative solutions to a recurrent problem that she is determined to resolve. And she has a great bedside manner, so friendly while she works. She is just the sort of person you would want to take care of you.

Laura was my nurse during my "Be The Match" injections process and I couldn't have asked for a more considerate sweet person! She was had great communication, always on time and really cared about me and who I am. Laura loved on my kitties and greeted them every time she entered my home which means a lot to me. Today was my last at home injection and she showed up with flowers and a sweet card that made me cry, and yes we hugged it out! GIVE THIS WOMAN A RAISE!

Infusions can be tiresome and lengthy. Laura has been great. She is very understanding and really takes the time to make sure my infusions are hassle free. From ordering supplies to infusion day, every step is streamlined and stress free. Laura is always available to answer any questions or concerns I may have. I really appreciate the care she provides.
BrightStar has been very helpful in providing relief for me and my my family during my moms illness and recovery. My goal with this review is to be helpful to others and to the company itself. Almost every caregiver we have had has been very good, some are a wonderful fit, others not so much. As a client I feel that I should have the right to request a specific person and also request a different caregiver. The company tries to send you the caregiver that suits you but if you have one that you would prefer not to have again, they insist on details that they feel are reasons to not send that person, (Usually that person is perfectly capable of providing care but maybe just isn’t the right fit). But they say that they will not replace someone unless you provide a negative story about them and they usually insist on a phone call. This causes me stress as I don’t want to tell stories about what the caregiver did or didn’t do…it’s usually just a personality issue. The conversations get a little mean and ugly. I’m too busy to deal with that. Just help me get the caregiver my mom loves.
One other problem is the way the company sometimes treats the caregivers. For example, the electronic platform that the caregivers use to clock in and out and provide daily updates to the company about the client, sometimes just doesn’t work. Maybe it’s connection issues. Whatever the reason, it certainly isn’t the caregivers fault, but the company makes the caregiver feel like they have failed, even going as far as to add a warning to their file. Sometimes BrightStar schedulers ask a caregiver to be at their next appointment without adequate time to get there. This creates frustration and exhaustion for the caregiver. Another example…if my mom has an appointment that has the caregiver clocking out 15 minutes late, they make it very difficult for the caregiver. Some want a phone call from me or the caregiver or both, other managers simply want a note on the electronic platform. It’s difficult for the caregiver to do the right thing when different managers want different notifications. I have seen some of the mangers add ‘warnings’ to the caregivers file when the caregiver has clear information from another manger that they are adequately notifying the company. Do they not review the previous conversations on the platform? Nearly every caregiver has expressed frustration to me about this. They don’t volunteer this information…I see their frustration and I ask them about it. They are always very respectful when speaking about their employer but they just want to be treated with dignity and respect.
It’s a good company that provides an important service. Maybe the problem lies with just a few managers that should have additional training…they should all be on the same page, they should all give their clients and the employees the benefit of the doubt. The service they provide is all about kindness and care so they need to work on being kind to their people and their clients. With a little more clarity and understanding on the mangers part, this could easily be a 5 star review. Admitting when you have made a mistake would go a long way to retaining managers, caregivers and clients.
We've had the privilege of working with Janine, RN from BrightStar Care for the past five years, and I can confidently say she is nothing short of exceptional. Her compassion, professionalism, and dedication to her client's well-being have made an incredible difference in our lives.
Janine consistently goes above and beyond, providing not only expert nursing care but also genuine emotional support. Her reliability and attention to detail have given us peace of mind year after year. She truly treats her client like family, and her warmth and kindness shine through in everything she does.
We are endlessly grateful for Janine's care and commitment. BrightStar Care is lucky to have her-and so are we. Highly recommend
