American Heart Month Celebrates Activities for Seniors in the San Fernando Valley

San Fernando Valley Seniors Get Moving For American Heart Month
February is American Heart Month, according to the American Heart Association. Heart disease is actually the leading cause of fatality in the U.S. for both men and women. Annually, 25 percent of deaths in the U.S. are the result of heart disease. That’s a pretty alarming statistic; but fortunately, people can do a lot to prevent and manage heart disease.

If you have elderly parents, you may be concerned about their overall health – and specifically, you may have cause for concern in relation to their heart health. One of the best ways to avoid the onset of heart disease is to stay in good physical condition, and that means getting a sufficient amount of exercise. No matter what shape your parents are in, you can help them to stay active. If you join them in getting active, you could also help yourself to prevent this common condition that causes so many deaths every year. Some of the following activities may be ideally suited to your elderly parents – so acknowledge Heart Month in the San Fernando Valley by keeping your senior loved ones active!

Aerobics for Seniors
If your parents are in good enough physical condition, you might suggest that they enroll in a senior aerobics program in the San Fernando Valley. Getting the heart rate up regularly is a vital aspect of combating cardiovascular issues. However, participating in a general aerobics class at the gym could be too much for your elderly parents to handle. A class that is specifically targeted to meet the needs of elders is a better option. The person leading such a class should be aware of the various limitations that many seniors are apt to experience.

Strength Training Exercises
Another way to get and stay in good shape is to perform strength training exercises. If your parents aren’t sure how to do this, they might consult a qualified instructor. You may assist them in getting the process started by making a few calls to places like the local gym or senior center. Moderate weight training is beneficial to people who have heart disease, so learning some exercises to strengthen the muscles is typically a solid plan for seniors.
