How long have you been working in healthcare?
I have been a Registered Nurse for over 5 years, working in both private and public hospital settings. In high school, I volunteered at an assisted/senior living facility before I earned my Bachelor's degree from Saint Louis University in Baguio City, Philippines. Having family in the health field has taught me about what it means to be a patient advocate, skilled caregiver and creative professional.

What experience do you bring to BrightStar Care?
Studying overseas immersed me in an environment where I had the opportunity to understand how healthcare attitudes differ across the globe. My nursing career started in Washington state where I alternated between Psychiatric, Medical-Surgical and Nurse Recruiting before returning to California. These experiences have nurtured me to be receptive to new situations and resilient when they are not what I expect. I am board certified in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing and currently employed in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry but Home Health nursing is a new adventure for me.

What aspect of your job are you most passionate about?
Being able to support the needs of my patients & their families in the comfort of their own environment is exciting! It is a fascinating process to learn about how home healthcare works while providing the convenience for patients to receive the treatment they need at home. It is rewarding to educate patients then see them use the knowledge imparted in their daily lives to improve and maintain their own health and well-being.

I am Making More Possible for out BrightStar Care clients by…
Communicating effectively with clients and their families to clearly understand what the clients need in order help them achieve their health goals.

How long have you been working in healthcare/management?
When I was 18, I started as a CNA at Motion Picture Hospital in Woodland Hills. I come from a long line of nurses including my grandmother, mother, aunt, sister and daughter.  As a result, I always knew I would become a nurse. I graduated from Pierce College with an AA degree in 1980 followed by working in the hospital and was immediately trained in ICU with ALS certification. I was also on their code team and remained working in the hospital for 14 years.  On the side I did platelet pheresis. The Hospital closed in 1994 which lead me to home health where I did wound care, IV antibiotics, post-op cases etc. I started to work with biologic meds in 1997 and had extensive training in all specialty infusion inducing; IVIG, Alpha 1 Antitrypsin, all enzyme replacement therapies and factors. I have continued to perform specialty infusions until present. I enjoy working patients and families of all ages, this year marks 40 years and I still enjoy what I am doing!

What experience do you bring to BrightStar Care?

How long have you been working in healthcare/management?
Before becoming an RN, I worked at the Oaks Christian Learning Center for three years as a scheduling coordinator and tutor. I served on their leadership team and assisted our directors in making decisions that were best for our students. I loved my time in education but felt called to pursue a career in Nursing. I became an RN after completing a rigorous accelerated BSN program at Mount Saint Mary's University. Shortly after graduation, I began my nursing career at Providence Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica. I worked on the Post Critical Care/Telemetry Unit until I had my first child and made the decision to be a stay-at-home mom. Now that my son is a little older, I'm thrilled to be back in the nursing field as a homecare RN.

What experience do you bring to BrightStar Care?
I'm proud of my background not only in acute care but in education (at the Oaks Christian Learning Center) and research (at Pepperdine University). At the hospital, I worked a wide variety of patients including those recovering from stroke, open heart surgery, lung resections, and brain surgeries. I also have personal experience with homecare as I cared for my 96-year-old grandfather at his home for 5+ years.

What aspect of your job are you most passionate about?
I'm passionate about ensuring that each patient feels heard, understood, and cared for. I remember how difficult it was to find quality home care for my grandfather and I am passionate about finding the right caregiver for each patient according to his/her individual needs.

I am making MORE possible for our BrightStar clients by providing an attentive listening ear, a warm friendly smile, and a caring, compassionate heart.

What aspect of your job are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about helping people. I believe we are all in this together and if we all help one another we will make life better for everyone. I have always been that person who believes that the little things mean the most. One thing I learned as a caregiver is that when we get older or need more help, we tend to feel like no one is listening. I always want our clients and caregivers to feel heard and understood. That is my biggest passion to help and make sure everyone feels heard and understood.
