    General Manager
    Dennis is the General Manager of BrightStar Care serving Hampton Roads, including Chesapeake, Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach. With many years of experience in the nonprofit world, Dennis has always been dedicated to helping others. Together with his business partner, Rick, they chose to invest in BrightStar Care with the heartfelt goal of providing compassionate, high-quality care to individuals and families in their time of need. Dennis believes that healthcare is more than a service—it’s a way to truly make a difference in people’s lives. He is married to Jennifer, and they are proud parents of seven grown children and grandparents to five wonderful grandchildren. Dennis leads with a family-first approach, committed to treating every client with the same care and respect he would give his own loved ones.

  • Julie Van Gorder

    Director of Nursing
    Julie has been an RN for 35 years and worked in a variety of nursing roles in her career. Working as a military wife afforded many opportunities for her growth during that time. She has been a neuro nurse, an ICU nurse, a quality assurance nurse and a staff development and an education nurse, which she truly loved.. In homecare she has held multiple roles from field nurse, quality assurance, staff development, ICD coder, private duty supervisor, nurse liaison and director of nursing. Julie is passionate about education and training for both clients and staff members, knowing that knowledge empowers people to do great things.

    Office Manager

    Originally from Colonial Heights, Virginia, Jennie moved to Chesapeake to join the BrightStar Care team, bringing with her a heartfelt passion for helping others. Jennie believes that every person deserves to be treated with kindness, dignity, and the same care she would give to her own family. With many years of experience in finance, office management, and administration, Jennie combines her attention to detail with a deep commitment to excellence in everything she does. Her dedication ensures that every client and family feels supported, respected, and well cared for at every step of their journey.

    With her husband, Dennis, Jennie shares seven grown children and they are grandparents to five wonderful grandchildren.

    RN Support
    Jamie brings over six years of experience as a Staffing Coordinator, where she plays a key role in making sure staffing runs smoothly. She enjoys working closely with the Director of Nursing to secure the authorizations needed to provide the best care possible. Jamie also has hands-on experience as a Personal Care Assistant, which gives her a strong understanding of both client and staff needs. She’s passionate about supporting her team and always works to help maintain a higher standard of care.

    Customer Care Manager
    Andreta is a dedicated Human and Social Services professional with over 12 years of combined experience in community care and non-profit advocacy. With an Associate’s Degree in Human and Social Services and a career rooted in compassion, Andreta has spent over eight years specializing in non-profit services for the homeless population. Complementing this, she has over four years of hands-on experience in home health care, serving as both a Personal Care Assistant and a Direct Support Professional (DSP) for adults with intellectual disabilities. Andreta brings a holistic approach to care, serving clients with complex mental health and physical disabilities. Driven by a lifelong passion for service inspired by years of volunteering in a church food pantry, Andreta is dedicated to improving client independence and well-being.

    Community Liaison
    Helen has two decades of experience in the healthcare industry, with a focus on geriatric care. Her career began at YMCA, where she taught health and fitness. She has since worked in Skilled Nursing Communities, Assisted Living, and Memory Care. Her passion for supporting families is evident in her work. Outside of work, Helen enjoys boating, kayaking, entertaining, and spending time with her grandchildren. She and her spouse have five children and eight grandchildren.

    Administrative Assistant
    Sarah is a service-driven individual with a background in nonprofit work and experience in geriatric care. These roles have strengthened her commitment to supporting others and improving the quality of life for those in need. She is currently pursuing education in cardiovascular technology, developing specialized skills in heart health and diagnostic care. Guided by a core goal of helping people, Sarah strives to combine her experience and training to make a meaningful impact on others' lives.
