At BrightStar Care of S. San Fernando Valley, We Serve with Passion, Do the Right Thing and Make it Great

John Mason, President/OwnerJohn-head-shot.jpg

After graduating from college and spending a short time in physical therapy, I got a job in the pharmaceutical industry. A 20-year career followed, with experience in sales, training, marketing, and sales management. I found I had moved a long way from caring for patients - my original reason for pursuing a career in healthcare. I combined my passion for patient care and knowledge of the medical industry and became a BrightStar owner. Now I am delivering on the promise I made to myself many years ago — to help people. I live in Sherman Oaks, with my wonderful wife Evelyn and two beautiful daughters, Mia and Sarah.

  our clients

How long have you been a Nurse?
I graduated from Los Angeles Valley College Nursing school in 1990. I have been a nurse for over 30 yrs and I still love it! I've cared for and worked with both adults and pediatrics.

What expertise and experience do you bring to BrightStar Care?
After becoming a new nurse in 1990, I worked at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in pediatric medicine, surgery, oncology, and hematology. Prior to joining Brightstar Care, I was primarily based in ambulatory care, County Hospital Clinics, and clinics for HIV patients, podiatry, rheumatology, and orthopedics. I also have experience in employee health, same day surgery (pre/post op), immunizations, community outreach, public health and homeless shelters. I've done many home health assessments, both skilled and non skilled, including case management and reassessments. I feel very comfortable working with clients diagnosed with Alzheimer's, dementia, Parkinson's disease, COPD, CHF and depression/anxiety. My most recent endeavor has been building my home infusion skills and knowledge. I really enjoy working with all staff and teaching CNAs, CGs, LVNs, and RNs.

What part of your job are you most passionate about?
Some people may say, “Kelly is Old School, a real nurse.” I love what I do! A sincere and caring heart will always shine through; compassion and honesty all make for a great clinician! I believe in following: policies and procedures, being mindful, paying attention to detail and always doing the right thing for the client. I truly enjoy the living room visit, speaking with the client/family and getting to know their needs. When doing an assessment, I am creating an Individualized Plan of Care with patient centered touch points. This is a great way to deliver great care! It's important to have an excellent bedside manner, be professional, organized and display superb time management skills. Patient safety and satisfaction are very important to me. We all bring something to the table, and together we make for a beautiful meal. Teamwork is a good thing!

What are three unique strengths you bring to BrightStar Care?
1. My psychosocial interpersonal relations and bedside manner are strong. I feel comfortable with people.
2. Honesty, empathy, integrity and loyalty are values I live by.
3. It’s very important to follow through and do the best job possible. "Reach out, Follow through, Make a Positive Difference in Someone's Life"
