Comprehensive Pediatric Home Care Services

From newborns to teenagers, our care team understands the unique needs of children. We provide superior in-home care in a familiar setting where they feel safe and comfortable.

Home Care for Children of All Ages

Although BrightStar® Home Care is most often known for the in-home services we provide to seniors, we also offer high-quality home care for children who are ill, care for children with disabilities and pediatric nursing.

Our caregivers and nurses are fully-screened, certified, licensed and trained to help with anything from respite child care support to 24-hour special needs care. BrightStar Home Care can also help with child care needs for parents who are disabled and need a little extra assistance.

BrightStar Care’s in-home pediatric care services provide qualified, compassionate care for children from the safety and comfort of familiar surroundings. Our team of pediatric in-home specialists can provide your child with personalized care in a range of scenarios – from short-term recovery after a surgery to long-term ongoing care.

Conditions We Support

Our pediatric caregiving staff is highly trained and certified to manage everything from complex medical conditions and developmental delays to chronic illness and post-surgical recovery. Your team will design a personalized care plan for your child under the guidance of a registered nurse. Care plans take into account the medical, mental, social, emotional and personal needs of your child.

Our pediatric caregivers have experience with caring for children with a wide variety of conditions, including:

  • Cerebral palsy: Caregivers may assist with personal care activities such as bathing, grooming, and eating. Other activities may include developmentally appropriate games or play that help build strength and motor skills.
  • Spina bifida: Children receiving care for complications due to spina bifida benefit from in-home care for activities like toileting, bathing, and dressing. For children with less severe cases, caregivers can assist in strength-building activities to encourage independence and walking.
  • Autism: Many families take advantage of respite care for children with autism. In-home care services for children with autism include practical care for daily living, but also developmental play and communication strengthening.

Preparing for Pediatric Home Care

Whether your child is returning home from a hospital stay, preparing to undergo surgery, or your family is in need of ongoing in-home pediatric care, we’re here for you at every step of the process.

If your family is considering pediatric home care, your BrightStar Care team will assist you with planning, logistics and scheduling services. To help you gain a better understanding of the process, here’s how we typically help families prepare for pediatric home care:

  • Referral: If your child needs skilled pediatric in-home care, you’ll need a referral from the attending doctor at the hospital or your child’s pediatrician. We’ll also discuss insurance coverage and payment options during the referral stage.
  • Pre-hospital services: If your child will soon undergo surgery or an extended hospital stay, our in-home caregivers can provide assistance around diet restrictions, packing hospital bags and talking to your child about their being away from home.
  • Hospital discharge: After your child leaves the hospital after surgery or extended care, caregivers will speak with the family about your child’s condition, medical needs, home environment and mental and emotional care. This stage will also include a safety assessment of the home environment to help keep your child safe while they recover.
  • Starting in-home pediatric care: Once we have an understanding of your child’s needs, caregivers will work closely with family members, your child’s doctor and any specialists to schedule in-home care. We’ll conduct ongoing assessments and maintain clear lines of communication with all members of your child’s care team.

Pediatric home care provides care in the form of either skilled nursing, in-home therapy or general assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) for babies, children and teens in the safety and comfort of the child’s home. Pediatric home care provides assistance for children with disabilities, special needs, and those recovering from surgery or other type of hospital stay.
The role of a pediatric caregiver is to provide personalized care services for a child at home. These services can include assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing and feeding. Pediatric caregivers can assist children transitioning both to and from a hospital stay. The main purpose of your pediatric caregiver is to help create a safe, calm environment that helps your child recover and/or live more independently.
All clients under the age of 18 are considered under the banner of pediatric services. Our pediatric caregivers each specialize in a particular age range that matches your child’s specific needs and stage of development.
Pediatric home health care includes the expertise and resources that your child would normally receive in a hospital or care facility, but in the comfort and safety of your own home. These services include care from a skilled pediatric nurse. Children, especially, can feel more afraid or isolated in a healthcare facility or hospital, making pediatric home care a valuable solution that can put them more at-ease in comfortable, familiar surroundings so they can better focus on recovery.
Pediatric home care coverage and out-of-pocket costs vary based on a number of factors, including your insurance plan, geographic location, doctor recommendations and referrals. Contact your provider for specific information about your family’s circumstances to understand what is covered by your plan. We will work with you to explore payment options  and help you navigate insurance paperwork so you can focus on the well-being of your child.
