Nomination Letter

Inspiration, a definition per Merriam-Webster dictionary, it is the action or power of moving the intellect or emotions. Brandi Lovvorn inspires, she inspires through her words but the reason I’m nominating her is because of her actions and heart.

I can go over her amazing clinical knowledge or her ability to perform supervisory visits and all the paperwork she does, but I want to talk about how she inspires.

Brandi treats all clients as though they are part of her family. She can come back to the office and tell you every detail about what’s going on in their life – you know, the warm and fuzzy. It’s not just stuff like so and so’s child had a soccer game, but she can tell you score that child made and the school they played against.

Brandi has a 15-year-old client with Cerebral Palsy, as he is growing his weight is becoming an issue for family and staff to provide safe transfers. This family is looking into an overhead lift system that can be used as he continues to grow. These lifts are quite costly costing several thousands of dollars. Brandi knows that this child and family have a love of motorcycles. What did Brandi do? She created a benefit ride with her motorcycle club to raise money for the lift. She worked hard on receiving raffles prizes, got media releases from family so it can be shared in the community. Brandi got 8 clubs from around the area to participate.

You want to see what pure joy looks like here is Harley and his mom:

Now let me remind you the definition of inspiration. It is the action or power of moving the intellect or emotions. This is inspiration to me:

Brandi inspires me everyday with her love, her kindness, and her caring. She goes above and beyond her job title of RN Case manager, she sacrifices her own personal time if her clients need her. She fights for them when it comes to making sure they are heard. She provides a voice for those who don’t have one.

Brandi inspires me to not only be a better employee but to be a better human. This is why Brandi is my nominee for Nurse of the Year.

Brandi Lovvorn is the shining example of a Higher Standard of Care! Brandi is the RN Case Manager in our branch office and is the glue that holds it all together 2 hours from our home office. Although I feel that Brandi always goes above and beyond for her clients and for me, what she orchestrated for one of our patients is beyond what my words can even fully describe.

Harley is a 15 year old cerebral palsy patient for whom Brandi case manages his nursing care. As Harley has grown through the years, it has become more and more difficult for our nurses and his family to lift him safely. Harley's family has explored purchasing a built in overhead lift in their home which would make caring for Harley easier for not just the nurses but his family, but the cost was more than they could afford.

Brandi decided to take action and organized a fundraising event to raise money for Harley's family to purchase a lift for their home. It was titled the "Give Harley a Lift" benefit ride. The event included a motorcycle ride by many groups in the area, a silent auction, and an evening of music put on by a local band. Brandi developed a very creative flyer and t-shirts for the day of the event. The Morrison family, including Harley in a sidecar, rode the first leg of the ride. Harley was beaming throughout the day, and I couldn't have been more proud of Brandi and what she was able to accomplish in helping this family. Brandi deserves the recognition of BrightStar Care Nurse of the Year for 2019!
